Serious A(H1N1) cases increase
Four more people have been hospitalized with the A(H1N1) virus, bringing the total number of patients hospitalized with the new flu strain to 296 since the outbreak began, the Central Epidemics Command Center (CECC) reported yesterday.
CECC officials said the new patients, two male and two female, are aged between six and 10.
Seventeen of the 296 patients have died, while 247 have recovered and 32 others remain in the hospital, the CECC said.
As of yesterday, 326 classes in 257 schools around the country remained suspended because of A(H1N1) infections among students. The number of affected classes accounts for 0.32 percent of the total, according to the CECC.
Taiwan conference
Nearly 700 executives from domestic and foreign enterprises have registered to take part in the 2009 Taiwan Business Alliance Conference scheduled to open Oct. 7 in Taipei, the forum's organizer said yesterday.
As the theme of this year's conference - Invest in Taiwan, Invest in our future - implies, the gathering is aimed at wooing foreign investment in Taiwan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said.
The executives will hear speeches, participate in panel discussions and go on field trips after the conference opens at the Taipei World Trade Center, with targeted sectors including "green" technologies, automotive electronics, leisure and tourism, and health care.
