The EU reference laboratory for Avian Influenza in Weybridge,UK has confirmed that dead rooster found dead in Bajina Basta earlier this month was infected with the bird flu strain H5N1.
Serbian authorities have isolated the zone near the domestic poultry farm and culled the poultry in a attempt to prevent the spreading of bird flu.
Albania was the first country of the region where the virus hit the poultry, following confirmations of the EU laboratory earlier this month on the presence of bird flu.
Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are the two other countries of the region affected with bird flu on wild birds but so far have the virus has not reached the domestic birds.
