SENEGAL-SANTE / Matam: a case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever discovered in Bokidiawé (chief doctor)

published May 9, 2024 at 2:38 p.m.

Bokidiawé (Matam), May 9 (APS) – A case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever was discovered in the village of Bokidiawé, we learned on Thursday from the head doctor of the Matam health district, Doctor Alioune Mbacké.

”It was this Monday that we received an email from the Ministry of Health and Social Action, through the Epidemiological Surveillance Division, which informed us of a positive case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in the Matam region,” said the doctor.

Doctor Mbacké spoke during a visit to the patient's home in Bokidiawé, accompanied by a delegation made up of the head of the Regional Livestock Service, the Commander of the Hygiene Brigade and the focal point of the Regional Health Agency.

Following this discovery, a team was quickly mobilized and moved to the location to “inquire about the situation in order to see the case through the patient who tested positive for her optimal care” , indicated the chief doctor.

”This will allow us to quickly contain the disease knowing that it is under epidemiological surveillance that Senegal is particularly following. “As long as we have only one case, that is enough to trigger an epidemic and start all the necessary procedures to limit transmission,” he explained.

The aim of this trip is also, according to the doctor, to “take care of the case in all its aspects for both humans and domestic animals”.

He also announced the holding of activities to clean up the environment, through the approach called “One Health”.

The chief doctor said that for the moment, only four cases have been discovered in Senegal, including two in Kaolack and one in Dakar.

For his part, the Head of the Regional Livestock Service, Abdoulaye Fall, with his team took blood samples from the domestic animals in the house.

Blood tests were also taken for members of the patient's family.

Monitoring of infectious emergencies: These 4 epidemics with positive cases which are ongoing in Senegal

By: Yandé Diop -Seneweb.com| October 09, 2024 at 7:10:57 PM |

During this week 40 of the year 2024, at least four epidemics with positive cases are underway. Note that even if for mpox, Senegal only has suspected cases, this is unfortunately not the case for the other epidemics currently raging in the country.

Indeed, the bulletin of the Directorate of Health, Epidemiological Surveillance and Response to Public Health Infectious Emergencies (DSRV) notes that Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is confirmed by PCR test in the district of Keur Massar where one case is noted.
