(COVID-19) Senegal has 2,976 confirmed cases with 67 new infections

DAKAR, May 23 (Xinhua) - Senegal recorded 67 new COVID-19 infections this Saturday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 2,976, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and 'Social action, Dr. Aloyse Waly Faye, during a press briefing.
He said the 67 new cases were detected on a sample of 934 tests performed in the past 24 hours.
These new infections concern 49 cases followed by health structures and 16 others from community transmission, including the 14 identified in Dakar, the epicenter of the pandemic in the country.
With 105 patients declared cured, the number of people discharged from the treatment centers rose to 1,416, he continued, adding that twelve people are being treated in the intensive care units.
The number of deaths related to COVID-19 increased to 34, with a new death. He is a 62-year-old man whose post-mortem test returned positive.
To date, Senegal has 2,976 cases declared positive, including 272 cases resulting from community transmission, 88 imported cases and 2,616 contact cases.
The country is in a state of emergency until June 2, with a curfew imposed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. As in other West African countries, wearing a mask is also compulsory in all public places.
