Australia?s Select Vaccines has produced a new influenza virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine candidate against H5N1.

Select Vaccines will conduct preclinical work on the candidate in the first quarter of 2008 to test for indications of immune response. Results from this work are expected in the third quarter, according to the company.

The drugmaker also announced that it is on schedule with its manufacturing program to produce VLP vaccines from a preferred industrial scale yeast-based expression system in the first quarter of 2008.
