There are now 11 reported flu cases at the Alachua County jail, jail spokesman Eugene Morris said. Another 128 inmates have been quarantined with flu-like symptoms.
The good news? The three men and eight women who have come down with influenza have the seasonal, regular variety. Tests confirm it is not the novel H1N1 strain that is being called swine flu.
The bad news? Inmates with flu or flu-like symptoms have been quarantined. That means there have been changes in where many inmates are located at the jail.
Morris said visitors over the holiday weekend are asked to call the jail in advance to check where the inmate they'll be visiting is being housed. Friends and family who might have a fever or flu-like symptoms, or who might be particularly susceptible to flu, including pregnant women or those with a compromised immune system, are being asked not to visit during the current flu outbreak.
