The 41-year-old father of two, who lived on Ilbilbie Cattle Station, about 80km south of Mackay, with his wife and two daughters was strong, fit and healthy.
At 100kg and just under six foot tall, he was ?bullet proof and larger than life?.
That's why his sudden death from swine flu on Sunday evening has shocked his family and the close-knit community.
Grieving best friend Matt Kennedy told the Daily Mercury yesterday that while his mate had been feeling crook for a few weeks - it didn't appear to be serious.
?Scott was still doing everything he loved like fishing, riding motorbikes and stock fencing,? Matt said.
?He absolutely loved being out in the fresh air.?
Scott had returned home from the Cancer Council fund-raising Traffic Light Party at Habana early Sunday morning when he began to have trouble breathing.
His concerned wife Janine, a nurse, called an ambulance that took Scott to Sarina Hospital and then on to Mackay Base Hospital.
On the way Scott was put in an induced coma and less than 12 hours later he died.
Test results on Tuesday evening confirmed he had swine flu. Scott is the first person to die in Queensland who was not considered to be in the vulnerable swine flu category. The vulnerable include indigenous Australians, pregnant women, the obese and those with underlying conditions such as heart disease, respiratory diseases and diabetes.
Matt said his best mate loved his family and would do anything for them.
?He cherished his daughters Dannielle, 14, and Georgia, 16,? Matt said.
?The family is coping okay but it's going to be tough when they say goodbye next week.?
Scott had been married to his wife for 18 years.
Matt said what he would miss most about Scott was his openness and ability to make people laugh.
