Scotland: Toddler suffers from H1N1 flu

A TODDLER has become the second person in Scotland to be struck down with the potentially deadly swine flu virus.

The 18-month-old boy from southern Scotland was admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with symptoms.

Staff at the hospital said he was being treated in their children's ward, but could not give any details of his condition.

A spokesman for the health board said: "We can confirm that NHS Dumfries and Galloway is dealing with a second case of H1N1."

NHS Dumfries and Galloway has said it is dealing with a second case of the H1N1 virus - known as swine flu.

An 18-month-old boy was admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary on Monday.

A 27-year-old woman from Sanquhar is being treated for the virus in a specialist hospital in Leicester.

According to this article, the toddler is the godson of Jennifer Scott, the woman who is being treated in a hospital in Leicester.

Her 18-month-old boy was last night being kept under close observation at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary ? after he was confirmed as the second person to contact the deadly bug within weeks.

Tyler started showing symptoms of the illness after being in close contact with his godmother Jennifer Scott, 27, who?s now fighting for her life at a specialist unit for seriously ill swine flu victims.

...Lucy said that she visited her local toddler group with Tyler, not knowing that her boy had the virus. She said: ?I took him to the group last Wednesday, before I knew he had swine flu. I would never have taken him if I had known what he had."

"THE mum of a toddler struck down by swine flu told of her relief as her son was released from hospital last night.

Medics assured Lucy Roberts that 18-month-old Tyler Roberts was out of danger following extensive tests.

It came 36 hours after he was admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Mother-of-three Lucy, 39, of Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire, said: ?I?m delighted to have him home.

?He doesn?t have a second strain of the virus in his chest, which would have been a concern...".
