Swine flu-related deaths reach 33

11/11/2009 17:39 The toll of swine-flu related deaths in Scotland has risen to 33, officials have said.

The latest death is of an adult from the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area with a "significant" underlying health condition.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "It is with regret that have to announce another death from H1N1 and my thoughts are with the patient's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Fortunately in the vast majority of H1N1 cases, most people have fairly mild symptoms and make a full recovery within a week."

She urged continued vigilance, and urged those in the priority groups to be vaccinated when their turn came.

"The vaccination programme is being rolled out but please wait until you are invited before visiting your GP for the vaccine," she said.
