Hiker, 29, collapsed and died on Scottish mountain after suffering known complication of anti-psychotic medication

Story by Amy Fenton • Yesterday 23:40
...
An inquest held at Blackpool Town Hall on Monday (December 19) heard that a post mortem could find no immediate cause of death but concluded Simon had suffered from cardiac dysrhythmia caused by clozapine.
...

Returning a conclusion of natural causes the coroner said: "He was appropriately prescribed clozapine having previously being prescribed two medications that had not benefited him. He had previously complained of heart and chest-related pains but these were considered to be acid reflux as opposed to cardiac difficulty.

"He had not complained about the medication clozapine having an adverse effect on his physical health. Mr Beattie was monitored by way of ECG and his plasma levels were monitored. When they were noted to be raised the clozapine doses were reduced to bring his plasma levels back into appropriate ranges.

Not being prescribed clozapine would have had an adverse effect on his mental health."
