An outbreak of the Clostridium difficile infection has been confirmed at a Highland hospital.

The region's health board said there had been seven cases of the bug at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in the last month. One ward has been closed and some non-emergency surgeries have been cancelled...

A WARD at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness remains closed after two more patients were confirmed as having Clostridium difficile at the weekend.

Nine patients have now been affected by the potentially deadly infection, which is contained in wards 4C and 3A...

Raigmore hospital latest on superbug outbreak

Bosses at the Highland?s biggest and busiest hospital have given the lastest situation on the outbreak of Clostridium difficile.

They have reported no new cases today and the infection remains contained in two wards - Ward 4C and Ward 3A.

There are four patients still in the hospital who have been confirmed with the superbug.

Ward 4C remains closed to new admissions or transfers.

Any patient requiring a surgical admission will be admitted to one of the other surgical wards. Ward 3A remains open.

A hospital spokeswoman said: "Due to the additional pressure on beds with having a ward closed to new admissions and transfers, we have been taking the precautionary step of reviewing all patients who are due to come in for a planned operation.

"No further patients have had their operations postponed today."

The outbreak of Clostridium difficile was confirmed on Thursday (January 19) with five cases across two wards.

There have been a total of seven cases in the outbreak, and in total the hospital has seen nine cases of Clostridium difficile this month...

Raigmore Hospital continues to deal with superbug outbreak

PATIENTS are still recovering from the potentially deadly superbug C-diff following an outbreak at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

NHS Highland bosses said there were no new cases of Clostridium difficile over the weekend, but added three patients in ward 4C were showing mild symptoms.

Meanwhile, a patient in Belford Hospital in Fort William was also suffering mild symptoms and was recovering from a relapse.

This patient, one of Raigmore?s original patients with the infection, had been moved to the Belford, after being considered well enough to be discharged from Raigmore.

However, up to 30 per cent of patients with C-diff relapse within a month, and this patient started developing mild symptoms again. This patient is being cared for separately to other patients...

Another ward has been closed at a hospital in Inverness due to a case of the potentially fatal bug, Clostridium difficile (C.diff).

NHS Highland said one patient at Raigmore Hospital had been isolated and a ward closed to new admissions for the next 24 hours while deep cleaning goes on.

Last month 10 patients at Raigmore were affected by the bug...

Highland hospital has been forced to close a ward for the second time in months following an outbreak of the clostridium difficile infection.

Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has closed ward 2C, an oncology unit, after three cases of the bug were reported within a fortnight.

Staff say the c.diff infection is limited to one ward and all affected patients are now being treated in isolation...

Three cases of C.diff have been confirmed in the cancer ward at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, forcing its closure. It is the third time the hospital has been by C.Diff this year.

In the decade 2000-2010, almost 1200 people were killed in cases where C.diff was recorded as the underlying cause of death in Scotland's hospitals. Data is supplied by the General Register Office for Scotland...
