EIGHT people were seriously ill in hospital last night after an outbreak of Legionnaires? disease.

NHS Lothian said they had four confirmed and another four suspected cases of the illness in Edinburgh.

Four men aged 39, 48, 60 and 63 have the disease while two 49-year-old women and two men aged 63 and 88 are also being monitored...

Six people are in hospital and a further four are receiving medical attention after an outbreak of Legionnaires? disease in Edinburgh.

NHS Lothian is investigating four confirmed and four suspected cases of the Legionella bacteria in the Gorgie, Dalry, and Saughton areas of the capital.

Six men are being treated in hospitals throughout Lothian. Five of the men are in intensive care units while the sixth is in a high dependency unit...

The number of confirmed cases in the Capital?s Legionnaire?s disease outbreak has risen to seven, with 13 suspected cases now being investigated.

Six men aged between 39 and 65 are in critical condition with the disease, and are being treated in intensive care.

A seventh man has recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The confirmed cases are all being linked to the Dalry, Gorgie and Saughton areas of Edinburgh, where efforts are continuing to try and trace the source of the outbreak...

The health board said the patient who died was in his 50s and had underlying health conditions. He was being being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Thirteen men and two women aged between 33 and 74 are in a critical condition with the disease and are being treated in intensive care in hospitals in the Lothian area. One man has recovered and has been discharged.

A further 10 men and five women are also being treated in hospitals but their illness has not yet been confirmed.

A cloud of vapour rising from cooling towers has been blamed for a massive outbreak of the deadly Legionnaires' disease tearing through Edinburgh.

The killer bug has already claimed the life of a man in his 50s and 30 others from the Lothian area are fighting for survival.

The NHS said 17 people were in a critical condition with hospital, with another 15 suspected cases and more expected...

THE number of people feared to have Legionnaires? disease in Scotland?s killer outbreak soared yesterday from 17 to 40.

The toll climbed in just 24 hours, while health chiefs warned that dozens more people could be struck down over the next few days.

One man in his 50s died on Tuesday.

Yesterday, NHS Lothian said doctors had so far recorded 21 confirmed cases and 19 suspected cases across the city.

A dozen victims were in hospital intensive care last night.

One man has recovered and has been discharged...

Legionnaires' disease victim named as number of confirmed cases rises to 24

The man who died from the outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in Edinburgh has been named as Robert Air, 56, as the Scottish government said the number of confirmed cases had risen to 24.

Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon told MSPs the 'most significant' outbreak of the disease in Scotland since 1980s had left a further 27 people suspected of suffering from the disease.
Out of the 51 people affected, 14 are in intensive care, she added.

THERE are now 74 confirmed and suspected cases of Legionnaires? disease amid an outbreak in the Scottish capital.

It also emerged that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has served an improvement notice on an Edinburgh company for alleged failures to adequately control the risk of Legionella in a cooling tower.

THE Legionnaires' disease outbreak in Edinburgh could become the most widespread ever in Britain after it emerged that doctors nationwide have been put on high alert.

GPs, pharmacists and hospitals south of the Border have received an urgent warning to say patients displaying flu-like symptoms could be suffering from the potentially lethal chest infection.

The alert was also forwarded to the Chief Medical Officers in Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

Health officials are concerned that with the Capital's tourist season in full swing many visitors could have contracted the bug before returning home.

There is already one case in the north of England, believed to be a football fan from Carlisle who was in Edinburgh for the Hearts Scottish Cup celebrations.

More victims are also being treated elsewhere in Scotland...

CASES of a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires' disease have risen again, the Scottish Government have confirmed.

There are now 82 confirmed and suspected cases of Legionnaires' disease from the outbreak in the south-west of Edinburgh.

This is an increase of one in the total number of confirmed cases, taking the number to 37, and an increase of one suspected case from yesterday, taking the total to 45.

The Health and Safety Executive and Edinburgh City Council are continuing their investigations into the possible source of the outbreak.

At noon today, of those cases being treated in hospital, 15 were in intensive care and 26 were on general wards.

A total of 16 cases were being treated in the community, 19 have been discharged from hospital and one person has died...

The latest reports from the Scottish Government Resilience Room (SGoRR) on the Edinburgh Legionnaires? disease outbreak show that there are now 39 confirmed cases and 49 suspected cases. This is an increase of two in the total number of confirmed cases and an increase of four suspected cases.

As at noon today, of those cases being treated in hospital, 14 are in intensive care and 26 are on general wards.

A total of 18 cases are being treated in the community, 22 have been discharged from hospital and one person has died.

Seven cases are being treated outwith the NHS Lothian area. The ages of the confirmed cases ranges between 33 and 76, with more males than females affected...

Edinburgh Legionnaires' outbreak: Two more cases confirmed

Two further cases of Legionnaires' disease have been confirmed in Edinburgh, bringing the total number to 41, with a further 47 suspected cases.

Both of the newly confirmed cases had previously been classed as "suspected" meaning the overall number of cases remains unchanged at 88.

Of those cases being treated in hospital, 11 are in intensive care and 19 are on general wards.

The first case was identified on 28 May.

A total of 18 cases are being treated in the community, 32 have been discharged from hospital and one person has died.

Seven cases are being treated out with the NHS Lothian area...

A second man has died from an outbreak of legionnaires' disease in Edinburgh.

The man, in his 40s, was from the Gorgie area of Edinburgh, which is in the centre of the area affected.

Sky News understands that he had underlying health problems and had been admitted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary early on in the outbreak.

Forty-one people have fallen victim to legionnaires' since the end of May. The number of suspected cases stands at 48...

The updated figures show one previously suspected case of the disease has now been confirmed.

The overall number of cases in the Edinburgh outbreak now stands at 93 - up two since Wednesday.

There are now 47 confirmed cases, an increase of three, and 46 suspected cases, a fall of one.
