<!--startindex-->PITTSBURGH -- The Allegheny County Health Department told Fox Chapel School District officials that a student at Fairview Elementary School may have contracted the H1N1 virus commonly known as swine flu.
The school sent out a letter to faculty and parents. It read, "We have confirmed that no unusual patterns of absenteeism or illness have been identified at Fairview Elementary School. School staff will continue to monitor the situation closely."
Officials said, to the best of their knowledge, the student did not attend school while ill.
The student is now recovering from the illness, officials said.
Throughout Allegheny County there are 29 confirmed cases and 18 probable cases of swine flu, according to the Allegheny County Health Department.
Statewide, there are over 500 confirmed cases and over 100 probable cases.

My daughter's report on Fairview was accurate. But now it may be even closer, becasue her sister is runing a temp of 100.2 (she NEVER has a temperature), with a cough, sore throat, headache, and VERY tired (she is being seen right now).

I hope she recovers quickly!!!!! I just got over the flu two weeks ago, its going around the hospital where I work. It was over in a week and a half. Have faith she will get better!!

Naso-pharygeal swab has been sent out for testing (but takes 4 days). Tamiflu perscription has been written.
Looks like schools out for summer.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for your daughter, Dr. Niman. And, I hope that you do not catch it as well.

I've been at this a long time - started tracking SARS, running forum boards in 2002. In 2003 I switched to Bird Flu. Now this. It's wierd.... you get to the point that you feel you know so much, but the reality of it is sort of surreal when it finally happens. When this news 1st broke in early April - my 5 year old got this (NO doubt in my mind what it was). It really changed me from the guy that tracks flu - to just a normal Joe Shmoe that is in the boat with everyone else.

Very unsettling experience. Over the last 2 weeks it's started getting very personal as I realize the enormity of what we could be facing soon.

I am sure your daughter will be fine. Keep your spirits up. I am a believer in "Karma". Surely your family is owed a few "personal karma passes" for your efforts :) Tamiflu sure doesn't hurt though! :)

Yes, I think a little Tamiflu goes a long way. I thhink I also had a mild version a few weeks ago and took Tamiflu before seeing the doctor and the mild symptoms quickly dissapated (and there were technical problems with the first sample, so it wasn't tested and when the second sample was collected I had been on Tamiflu for three days, was feel better, and the test was negative).

The daughter with the symptoms is young and (previously) healthy. I think she will do fine.
