A scarlet fever outbreak has emerged among Russian tourists vacationing in Thailand, raising concerns for both those infected and other vacationers. Reports from March 26, 2025, indicate that several dozen individuals, including both adults and children, have contracted this contagious disease in popular resort areas such as Pattaya and Phuket.
The symptoms associated with the outbreak are severe and include high fever, often reaching around 40 degrees Celsius, alongside pronounced rashes, cough, and sore throat. Tourists affected by the illness have been diagnosed by local doctors, who are prescribing antibiotics to manage the symptoms. As a result of these developments, many vacationers are now fearful of leaving their hotels, leading to a decision to cancel excursions and avoid exploring local areas.
Since the beginning of 2025, Thailand has reported a total of 455 cases of scarlet fever, which is a significant number compared to the average of 600 cases typically recorded for the entire year over the past five years. Notably, the current number suggests a grim escalation.
