SC prison reports swine flu; isolates sick inmates
The Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Officials think they have stopped a flu outbreak at a South Carolina prison, but precautionary measures are in effect.

Authorities say 32 inmates came down with the flu at the Allendale Correctional Institution, and three of them tested positive for swine flu - the first cases reported in the state's prisons.

Prison officials say they isolated the infected inmates and disinfected their cells. Staff members wore masks and none of them have been infected.

Weekend visitation at the prison, which houses about 1,250 inmates, has been suspended and inmate transfers to and from the prison have been halted.

The prison system is giving flu shots to its inmates and has asked state health officials to provide swine flu shots when they are available.
