Saudi health chiefs have confirmed two more swine flu deaths in the kingdom, taking the total to 11.

The latest deaths were reported in Riyadh and Abha, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

Khaled Al-Mirghalani confirmed the deaths on Wednesday night, saying one of the deceased was a young man with heart problems and the other was an old man, Arab News reported on Thursday.

RIYADH ? The Health Ministry announced two swine flu deaths Wednesday, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 11 in the Kingdom.
The ministry said in a statement that one of the deceased was 30 years old. He was admitted to a Riyadh hospital in March 2006 due to a traffic accident which resulted in a severe head wound, irreparable damage to the brain and severe deformity in the upper and lower limbs, Al-Watan Arabic daily reported.
The statement pointed out that his health condition had deteriorated and he was admitted to the ICU on Aug. 4 and passed away Aug. 7.
The second victim, who was 48 years old, suffered from diabetes and cardiac disease and was admitted to a hospital in Abha on Aug. 5 after which he was moved to the ICU where he died on Aug. 9.
The Ministry has appealed to all citizens and expatriates to strictly abide by preventive and precautionary measures. It also urged them to visit the nearest health center in case of common flu symptoms accompanied by a constant rise in temperature for more than three days or difficulty in breathing, chest pain, or bloody sputum.

Indian dies of swine flu in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Saudi health authorities have announced three new swine flu deaths, including of an Indian expatriate, taking the country's toll to
14.

The three included a Saudi woman of 28 and a Saudi girl of 11, both of whom died on Friday, and the Indian expatriate man who died Thursday, the health ministry said.

The ministry said that the spread of the A(H1N1) flu virus remains relatively slow and that fatalities are low in the country. Official infection figures have not been updated for nearly two weeks but reports put them over 700.

Saudi Arabia has been stepping up surveillance and treatment activities with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, when normally hundreds of thousands of foreign Muslims arrive in the country to undertake the umrah minor pilgrimage to Mecca.

But hotels in the Mecca region are reporting large cancellations due to the fear of flu. Iran, Iraq and Egypt have all announced restrictions on who can travel for umrah, and the Saudi government has discouraged the elderly and children from coming.

Meanwhile Saudi King Abdullah has ordered that all cases of swine flu be treated for free, whether for Saudis or foreigners.
