SR 50 m set for anti-MERS measures in schools
A budget of SR50 million has been allocated for the establishment of preventative programs aimed at reducing the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in schools and educational institutions, said the Assistant Supervisor of Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Mohammed Haider.
The General Manager of Educational Health at the Ministry of Education, Sulaiman bin Nasser Al-Shehari, said the plan to combat MERS consists of providing health education to students and teachers, training health personnel in school clinics, and the continuous provision of personal disinfectants and antiseptic kits to all schools.
"Schools are one of the key environments that require the application of preventative measures and precautions to reduce the spread of infectious diseases, and thus we have began implementing the directives of the mnister to develop a plan that will strengthen the health measures in schools to protect students and staff against the virus," he said.
He said the plan, which was put in place during the last two months of the previous academic year, includes the establishment of a fully equipped clinic in each school or educational institution.
