Saudi Arabia reports second H1N1 flu death

RIYADH, July 30 (Reuters) - An Indonesian woman died of the new H1N1 flu in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, the second death in the kingdom which is gearing up to welcome hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims in November.

The official Saudi Press Agency quoted the health ministry as saying the 28-year-old woman died in the city of Dammam, in the eastern region of the kingdom which has a large population of foreign workers from Asian countries.

On Monday, Saudi Arabia announced its first death from H1N1, a 30-year-old Saudi man, also in Dammam. Saudi Arabia has reported about 300 cases.

Saudi officials have said they would use thermal cameras and have more medics on stand-by as part of measures to limit the flu during the haj pilgrimage but do not expect to stop the spread of the virus completely.

2nd swine flu death in KSA
RIYADH ? A 28-year-old Indonesian woman died of swine flu in Dammam Thursday, the second death in the Kingdom.
The woman was admitted to Dammam Central Hospital on Monday (July 27) and was diagnosed as having A-H1N1, said a Ministry of Health statement.
She was placed under qualitative treatment, but her condition deteriorated and she died Thursday morning at 9.00 A.M., said the statement.
The ministry reiterated that it will provide information with all transparency on swine flu, and appealed to all residents not to follow rumors.
On Monday, the Ministry of Health announced the death of a 30-year-old Saudi man from the swine flu virus in Dammam.
Health officials say the number of swine flu cases in the country has already exceeded 300.
Officials have said they would use thermal cameras and have more medics on stand-by as part of measures to limit the flu during the Haj.
Last week, Arab health ministers banned children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses from attending this year?s Haj.
H1N1 swine flu has swept around the world in weeks, infecting millions and killing more than 800 by official counts.
While only a ?moderate? pandemic by World Health Organization standards, it could worsen as temperatures cool in the northern hemisphere, making conditions better for viruses. ? SPA/Agencies
