Saudi Arabia on Sunday ended a nationwide coronavirus curfew and lifted restrictions on businesses, including hair salons and cinemas, after three months of stringent curbs, despite a spike in infections.

The night-time curfew, imposed at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, was lifted on Sunday as the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country stood at 157,612, reports Efe news.

This is the last phase of a three-stage reopening plan the Kingdom began implementing on 28 May."

There are 59,767 active cases receiving medical care, including 2,272 in critical condition, the agency reported, quoting a statement of the health ministry.

The health ministry also said that 49 new deaths have been reported, bringing the total fatalities to 1,698.

As many as 1,994 cases have recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 132,760.
