New cases of bird flu (H5N8) 11

The ministry continues to work with the relevant authorities to contain the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian flu (H5N8). The number of new confirmed laboratory cases among the birds during the last 24 hours in the Kingdom (11), five in Al-Ahsa governorate, While the remaining two were distributed in each of Al-Kharj and Bani Tamim governorates for one each, all of which were registered as traditional poultry breeding grounds.
On the ground, the veterinary teams in Al-Kharj and Al-Kharj governorates continued their safe disposal of three previously reported poultry production projects and the implementation of the emergency plan for the disease on those projects and the surrounding areas.
While the field veterinary teams in the provinces of Al-Kharj, Huraila, Al-Ahrama, Al-Ahsa, Buraydah, Al-Bukairiya, Al-Dawadmi and Hawatah Bani Tamim are conducting safe disposal procedures for infected birds in a number of traditional breeding habitats in the vicinity of the areas where the infection was detected and declared and implementing and updating the emergency plan at those sites.
On the side of laboratory diagnosis, the Ministry's veterinary laboratories have received 2541 samples to examine the disease. All samples were collected on the basis of citizens' reports and epidemiological procedures in the vicinity of infected and non-infected areas to detect any new outbreaks early in the Kingdom.
