Sask. COVID-19 Update for Saturday: Hospitalizations down to 345, 978 new cases, one death in the North West

As of February 5th, there are 978 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 122,525 reported cases.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (5), Far North Central (2), Far North East (12), North West (49), North Central (60), North East (29), Saskatoon (229), Central West (4), Central East (62), Regina (254), South West (35), South Central (46), and South East (124) zones and 67 new cases have pending residence information.
Of the 978 new cases reported today, 154 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 33 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 458 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 333 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose...

Saskatchewan reported 13 fewer hospitalizations from COVID-19 on Sunday, dropping the total number of people in hospital to 332.

It's the third day in a row that hospitalizations have decreased since reaching a new record on Thursday.

The number of people in intensive care rose by one for a total of 31, according to the provincial COVID-19 dashboard.

Sunday is also the last day Saskatchewan will post a daily update to the COVID-19 situation in the province. Beginning on Monday, COVID-19 data will be reported on Thursdays and will include laboratory-confirmed cases, deaths, tests, hospitalizations and vaccination information.

The province reported six more deaths on Sunday, for a total of 1,012. All of the deaths were in people 40 or older.

Saskatchewan posted 724 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 123,258. There are 9,223 known active cases in the province, 562 fewer than Saturday's report...

COVID-19: Saskatchewan weekly report shows 5,401 new PCR-confirmed cases

In its first COVID-19 update since Sunday, the Saskatchewan government reported 5,401 provincial PCR confirmed cases and 22 new deaths between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5.

The government announced last week they would no longer be providing daily COVID-19 updates and would instead release weekly data on Thursdays.

There were 384 COVID-19 patients in hospital as of Wednesday. Of those cases, 206 were incidental infections.

A total of 26 new patients were in the ICU with COVID-19 on Wednesday.

COVID-19: Saskatchewan reports 2,522 cases last week, 410 in hospital Wednesday

Saskatchewan government officials have released the weekly COVID-19 data for the timeframe of Feb. 6 through Feb. 12, showing 2,522 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 42 deaths.

The government ceased daily reporting earlier this month.

Of the new deaths, 69 per cent were among those aged 80 and older.

A total of 12,079 PCR tests were performed, which amounts to 10 tests per 1,000 population.

The seven-day daily average of cases was just over 360...

...According to the report, as of Wednesday 410 people were in hospital with COVID-19, including 33 in the ICU.

Of the 410 hospitalizations, 221 are considered incidental infections...

Saskatchewan reports 1,407 new COVID cases, 37 more deaths

Another 37 Saskatchewan residents died of COVID-19 during the province’s latest reporting period.

The Ministry of Health issued its weekly epidemiological report Thursday, with data from the week starting Feb. 13 and ending Saturday.

The deaths reported comprised 26 people in the 80-and-over age group, seven individuals in the 70-to-79 age group, three people who were in their 60s, and one person between the ages of 20 and 39.

The fatalities included nine in the north-central zone, seven in each of the Regina and southeast regions, and six in the Saskatoon zone.

Over the past two reporting periods, 79 Saskatchewan residents have died due to COVID. The province has announced 1,093 COVID-related fatalities since the start of the pandemic.

The update Thursday also said there were 1,407 new cases during the week in question. As of Wednesday — the point at which hospitalization data is collected — there were 372 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, with 27 in intensive care.

The latest weekly statistics were released the same day the government confirmed it would extend its state of emergency starting Monday.

That’s the day the rest of the province’s health orders — including masking in indoor public spaces — are to be removed.

Premier Scott Moe signed the extension Wednesday, saying it’s only needed so the province and the Saskatchewan Health Authority will have the ability to move health-care providers around in the system.

Once that’s no longer needed, Moe plans to remove the state of emergency.

A look at the numbers

The total of new cases was significantly lower than the previous week, when 2,521 cases were reported.

The total announced Thursday included 295 cases in the Regina region and 237 in the Saskatoon area.

There were 9,142 laboratory tests performed in Saskatchewan during the week, down from 12,079 the week before. That’s a total of 7.6 tests performed per 1,000 people.

The weekly test positivity rate of 14.4 per cent was down from 20.2 the previous week.

The number of hospitalizations was down from its record high of 410 set the week before, while ICU admissions were down by six...

COVID-19-related deaths, new cases drop in Saskatchewan

Deaths and hospitalizations dropped in Saskatchewan as the province released its weekly COVID-19 data.

The province reported 13 COVID-19-related deaths in the seven days ending on March 5, down from the 44 deaths from the previous reporting period.

The report said 85 per cent of the deaths were people aged 80 and older.

Hospitalizations also dropped, with 339 patients in hospital as of March 9 who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. That is down from 353 on March 2.

The weekly report said 142 current patients were in hospital with a COVID-19-related illness, with 186 having an incidental COVID-19 infection. Officials noted 12 cases are still under investigation.

Patients being treated in intensive care dropped from 19 to 12.

The incidence of new cases continued to fall, although officials cautioned that the rates do not include cases detected by home rapid-antigen tests.

The province said 1,013 new cases were laboratory-confirmed during the reporting period, down from 1,101 the previous week...

Issued Thursdays, the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 integrated epidemiology (epi) report utilizes multiple data sources and includes laboratory-confirmed cases, deaths, tests, vaccination information provincially and by zones, as well as hospital and ICU census trends and distribution of rapid antigen tests. The epi report this week looks at data from Sunday, March 6 to Saturday, March 12, 2022. The hospitalization data is a comparison from Thursday, March 9 to noon March 16, 2022.

Summary for the week of March 6 - 12, 2022
  • 6,826 laboratory tests were performed in Saskatchewan reflecting 5.7 tests performed per 1,000 population.
  • The number of tests was about 90 per cent of the number of tests in the previous week (7,518).
  • About one in nine laboratory tests were positive (weekly test positivity of 11.8 per cent).
  • Percentage of positive tests (11.8 per cent) was lower than in the previous week (12.7 per cent).
  • 832 new cases were confirmed reflecting about 0.7 laboratory-confirmed cases per 1,000 population.

Thirty-three COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Saskatchewan’s latest COVID-19 report, up for the second straight week, with 28 reported last week.

A total of 306 people are in hospital related to COVID-19: 128 for a COVID-19 related illness and 158 with an incidental COVID-19 infection.

There are 19 people in ICUs, according to the province’s epidemiology report.

There were 147 new lineage results reported this past week. Of the 147 variants of concern identified by whole genome sequencing, all were Omicron. Approximately 26 per cent of those cases were identified as the Omicron BA.2 sublineage.

A total of 895 new laboratory cases were confirmed for the week of March 13-19, according to a news release from the provincial government.

More than one in nine lab tests were positive, leading to a test positivity rate of 11.7 per cent...

Twenty-four new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Saskatchewan for the week of March 27 to April 2, up four from the previous weekly provincial update.

COVID-19 related hospitalizations rose as well, with 354 total reported as of April 6 including 20 people in ICUs. Among those in hospital, 145 had a COVID-19 related illness, 177 were incidental infections and 32 were under investigation.

Twenty confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks were reported in long-term care and care home settings, up 10 from last week.

Also, 440 new variant lineage results were reported, all of which were Omicron. Of those 440, 21.4 per cent were sublineage BA.2, compared to 15.5 per cent from the last update.

There were 7,689 lab test performed in Saskatchewan, with 1,196 positive results, leading to a test positivity of 13.2 per cent, slightly higher than last week which was 12.3 per cent.
