Sanofi New Influenza Vaccine Proves Efficient in adults above 65 years old in Trials

Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine unit of French drug maker Sanofi SA (SAN.FR), said Monday its new influenza vaccine showed promosing resultsin people above 65 years old in recent clinical trials.

MAIN FACTS:

- Results of a large-scale, multi-center efficacy trial show a superior clinical benefit of Fluzone High-Dose compared to the standard dose of Fluzone vaccine in preventing influenza.

-In the study, Fluzone High-Dose vaccine was 24.2% more effective in preventing influenza in adults above 65 years old than Fluzone vaccine. Additionally, the study results suggested consistent clinical benefit across the study years, influenza virus types, clinical illness definitions, and laboratory methods of influenza confirmation.

- While further studies are still ongoing, Sanofi Pasteur expects to submit a full clinical study to the US Food and Drug Administration by early 2014. .
