August 3rd, 2006 (KFMB Stations)
San Diego's preparations for a possible bird flu outbreak are well underway.
Public health officials said 11,000 patients could be treated per day at hospitals, community centers and gyms.
Officials are considering using telephones to deliver emergency warnings, but still plan to use newspapers, radio and television.
They add San Diego is still not completely ready to deal with an outbreak of bird flu, but the county has accomplished its immediate preparedness goals.
