State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced Wednesday that California's six largest insurers would waive co-payments and deductibles for the H1N1 flu vaccine.
Those insurers are Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross, Blue Shield, CIGNA, HealthNet and United HealthCare/Pacificare.
Also on Wednesday, health officials said the county had recorded its 23rd H1N1-related death.
The 59-year-old woman with underlying health problems died at Sharp Chula Vista Hospital, county Health and Human Services spokesman Tom Christensen said.
The county's first allotment of H1N1 flu vaccine arrived this week, with 2,000 doses of nasal spray vaccine available through county public health centers, and an additional 26,000 doses available through primary care physicians' offices, Christensen said. The initial doses of the vaccine are designated for healthy children 2 to 18 and healthy infants younger than 6 months, he said.
The county expects to receive approximately 411,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine during October and additional supplies of the vaccine each month.
