SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea on Sunday reported its sixth death case related to A/H1N1 influenza, one day after a 73-year old woman died from the same virus as the 5th death case in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, a 67-year-oldman, who suffered from chronic epilepsy, died earlier in the day due to pneumonia, septicaemia and other complications caused by the new flu virus.
The Seoul resident, who did not have a history of traveling out of the country and had not been in contact with other A-type flu patients, showed symptoms of high fever and coughing on Aug. 20.
His condition rapidly deteriorated and received antiviral treatment on Aug. 26. He was confirmed infected with A/H1N1 virus on Aug. 27, the ministry said.
South Korea reported its first death case from A/H1N1 flu on Aug. 15 and the 5th on Sept. 12. Another female A/H1N1 patient lapsed into brain death on Sept. 4. The country reported its first new flu outbreak in early May, and a total of 7,577 cases of the flu infections were reported across the nation as of Sept. 10, according to the ministry. Health experts say the disease may spread more widely in the fall, and the death toll may rise.:tiphat:http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-09/13/content_12045440.htm

Sixth Death From Influenza A Confirmed

By Bae Ji-sook
Staff Reporter

A 67-year-old man infected with Influenza A (H1N1) died Sunday, raising death from the virus to six.

The man died of multiple organ failure, a possible complication from the influenza virus, according to the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs.

He had not been abroad, but had suffered from chronic liver failure, which is presumed to have affected the death directly.

The man suffered from cough since Aug. 20, and was brought to a hospital in metropolitan area four days later.

He was given antiviral drug Tamiflu on Aug. 26 and was confirmed with the infection on the following day, but died Sunday around 1 p.m.

Korea had its first patient reported in May and the first death on Aug. 15.

The number of patients is expected to be around 7,000, where most of them had recovered. Six are hospitalized for intensive care.

The government said it will vaccinate around 10 million people, about 20 percent of the country's population, by the end of the year.
