S. Korea reports record high of new 258 influenza A patients on Thursday
2009-08-21 18:28:28

WAM SEOUL, Aug. 21, 2009 (WAM) -- South Korean health authorities decided on Friday to discontinue daily release on number of influenza A infected patients.

The move came following the report that the record high number of swine flue cases was reported on Thursday nationwide.

On Aug. 19, the daily outbreak of swine flu cases was tallied at 108 patients but the figure jumped to 258 on Aug. 20, only one day after hitting 100 mark, thus bringing the nationwide total as of Aug. 21 to 2,675.

The influenza A flu is feared to spread further as local schools open next week after a month-long summer vacation. Warning against rapid increase of swine flu infected cases in the weeks to come, the health authorities said that the number of swine flu cases may increase up to 130,000 to 230,000 under the worst scenario.
