The mosque has, since the start of the popular protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, become a crucial point for medical emergencies. "It is the difference between life and death," says Doctor Amr Bahaa. "We only do life support, and then if they need more they go to a hospital nearby."
On Saturday, the mosque was the primary centre to deal with casualties from the violent shoot-out at the police headquarters nearby. "Thirteen people died here," says Dr Mohammed.
