MOSCOW (Dow Jones)--The H5N1 strain of bird flu, which is dangerous to humans, has been detected by Russia's Rostov regional veterinary laboratory in the blood of a migrant bird.

The bird was shot dead Tuesday near the village of Nikolaevsky in the Konstantinovsky district of the southern region, the regional government said Friday.

The regional government has imposed a 10-kilometer no-go area around the village and attempts are being made to prevent poultry from coming into contact with migrating birds.
