Russian Scientists Prove Mosquitoes, Bats Are Avian Influenza Vectors

Re: Russian Scientists Prove Mosquitoes, Bats Are Avian Influenza Vectors

so, they found some influenza-A in the blood of mosquitoes.
Their own blood, or the blood which they sucked ?

H3N2 doesn't survive in human blood, I read.

Are their cases of H2M2H or B2M2H ?

how many mosquitoes were examined in that area, how many had
flu-A ?
Guess you (we) could always give T. A. Pimenov (Tel. 374-12-44) a call.... ;)

Re: Russian Scientists Prove Mosquitoes, Bats Are Avian Influenza Vectors

Everyone,
I have forwarded this thread, along with the PDFs of the Pennsylvania and Australian issues, to the University of Florida mosquito gurus. They will peer review the papers and read the threads and get back to me with their opinions.

I also told them about the dengue and chikungunya threads on the site. Maybe they will dial in and comment and get hooked as we are all hooked. Also, I was in an elevator here at the Capitol the other day when it was Mosquito Eradicator day or something like that. Anyway, all these mosquito control people were in the elevator when I got in, so I said "Get that Chikungunya virus! " and they all laughed appreciatively. That's FluTrackers! Educating the planet.

Thanks Scott. :)

(said while counting my supply of mosquito repellents, head nets, PIC sticks, etc. for the coming season :D )

This is seriously bad news. Not unexpected to a logical mind; completely surprising to a forgetful one.

Here in Winnipeg the Chief Medical Officer's weekly news releases on the state of West Nile, the number of Culex in traps, and the decision for widespread fogging, are followed religiously.

I wonder what's faster and more effective transmission - one infected human on an airplane, or many infected mosquitoes blown from city to city.

Time to hug my kids.

Some mosquitos can fly for miles, while others travel only a few hundred feet in their lifetime. Here, mosquitos magnets can effectively eliminate them from up to an acre per machine.

I can avoid mosquitos better than people......so I'll worry more about people.

gsgs, as you know, H5N1 does survives in human blood. For those who didn't know it, see Finding of H5N1 in blood raises safety concerns

Mosquito magent machine ??? Surely you jest?

Don't some mammals have a bit of hematite in their snouts for finding magnetic north?

Jest?....no way, I'm serious - I LOVE these machines!:D

They are the absolute best defense against mosquitoes I've ever seen.
