Russian plane disappears in demonstration flight in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) -- Russia's newest civilian airliner disappeared Wednesday from radar screens during a half-hour demonstration flight in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, state-run RIA Novosti news service reported.

There were 44 passengers on board.

The plane went missing at about 2 p.m. in the area of Bogor, West Java, Indonesian Transportation Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan told Metro TV...

50 people on board missing Sukhoi airliner

In a press conference on the missing Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliner on Wednesday night, the official Indonesian agent for Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi, PT Trimarga Rekatama, announced that the ill-fated plane was carrying 50 passengers.

?The plane is carrying 42 invitees and eight crew members,? PT Trimarga Rekatama chairman Sunaryo said.

However he did not announce names of the passengers.

He added that his company was continuing to coordinate with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to gain information on the missing plane.

Basarnas chief Vice Marshal Daryatmo said they would continue the aerial search tomorrow due to bad weather.

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) -- The wreckage of a Russian passenger airliner that went missing during a demonstration flight over Indonesia has been located in a mountainous area, but rescue workers have yet to find any survivors, officials said Thursday.

Teams searching for the plane spotted debris from the Sukhoi Superjet 100 at a height of about 5,800 feet (1,800 meters) on the side of Mount Salak, a volcano south of Jakarta, said Vice Marshal Daryatmo, head of the National Search and Rescue Agency...

MOUNT SALAK, Indonesia ? Search teams who scaled a volcano?s steep slopes found at least 12 bodies Friday near the wreckage of a Russian-made jetliner that crashed in Indonesia during a demonstration flight for potential buyers, an official said.

?Today we have discovered 12 victims, all dead,? Rear Marshal Daryatmo, head of the national search and rescue agency, told reporters Friday.

Many of the bodies found Friday had been torn apart in the crash, said Lt. Col. Oni Juniato of the Indonesian marines, whose search team found eight corpses before returning to base camp further down the mountain.
