Russia - West Nile Fever Cases Reported in 2015

On 01.09.2015 in the territory of the Russian Federation reported 14 cases of West Nile fever incidence (Astrakhan region - 6, -2 Saratov region, Samara region - 1 and 5 imported in other regions of Russia).

FBUZ "Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Volgograd region" is monitoring the environmental objects (the study of mosquitoes, rodents, birds) for the presence of West Nile virus antigen. The Center's specialists together with the specialists of Rospotrebnadzor in the Volgograd region are assessing the effectiveness of the treatment ponds in Volgograd, involved in conducting entomological expertise residential and public buildings, including Complaints population for the presence of mosquitoes and other insects.

West Nile virus (WNV) in the territory of Volgograd and the Volgograd region has attracted attention due to the fact that today, on the background of change of climatic conditions, has formed a natural focus of the pathogen of the disease.

This means that the virus that causes WNV previously come to us with migratory birds that spend the winter in Africa, is currently circulating in the city and the area permanently.

In the Volgograd region over the period from 1999 to 2014.registered 1255 cases of West Nile fever, of which 56 have been fatal (4.5%).
 
As of 18.09.2015 in registered 6 cases of West Nile fever (WNF), infection occurred in 5 cases, stay in natural conditions of the Saratov region, in one case - on a residence in the city of Saratov, all ill say mosquito bites.
