Russia reports highest daily COVID-19 case rise since early January

MOSCOW -- Russia reported 25,766 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the most confirmed in a single day since Jan. 2, as authorities struggled to suppress a surge in infections blamed on the more contagious Delta variant.

Moscow — Russia is battling a deadly third wave of coronavirus infections. For days, the country has reported record numbers of daily deaths, and hospitalizations are skyrocketing thanks in part to the spread of the highly infectious Delta variant.

On Thursday, Russia reported 25,293 new infections, and it set a grim new record for daily deaths with 791 confirmed fatalities. Overall, Russia has officially identified more than 5.8 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

But despite an official ban on mass gatherings and other restrictions, many Russians are either ignoring or cheating on the rules. Videos have showed young people enjoying large parties...

Russia reports 20,914 daily COVID-19 cases — crisis center
Russia’s daily coronavirus deaths below 800 for the first time since August 11

MOSCOW, August 18. /TASS/. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia grew by 20,914 in the past 24 hours, reaching 6,663,473, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Wednesday.

The relative growth rate stands at 0.31%.

St. Petersburg reported 1,636 new cases, Moscow — 1,590, the Moscow Region — 1,240, the Nizhny Novgorod Region — 521 and the Smolensk Region — 516.

The number of patients who are undergoing treatment has dropped for the first time since June 3 and currently stands at 551,527, based on data provided by the crisis center.
