Bird flu virus discovered among wild birds in Kalmykia
ELISTA. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Antibodies to the bird flu virus H5 have been discovered in samples of wild birds in Kalmykia.
"Antibodies to the virus were discovered in samples taken in Yashaltinskoye and Oktyabrskoye districts of the republic in the process of monitoring wild birds for the H5 bird flu virus. Additional tests confirmed that there are bird flu virus carriers among wild birds," deputy head of the regional division of Rosselkhoznadzor animal and plant disease watchdog Andrei Akdanov told Interfax on Tuesday.
"Poultry is being vaccinated, especially actively in the areas where the virus carriers were discovered," he said.
