The Health Secretariat of Rio Grande do Sul has confirmed an additional case of influenza virus, Influenza A (H1N1) in the state. The patient is a child of 6 years of age who live in the city of San Gabriel.
The child is hospitalized and has progressed well in the context of health. In 2011, 87 cases were reported, with five confirmed by the Central Laboratory of the State (Lacen) and two deaths.
On Thursday, the department had confirmed the second death by disease in the state. The victim was a man aged 71, diabetic, and resident of Bage. He interned at the Santa Casa of the city in three days and was transferred a day later to the ICU, where he died.
