A strain of bird flu was detected in a swan found dead in Constanta and the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVA) announces crackdown in the area, Mediafax reports.

Vice ANSVA Michael Ponea said Sunday, AFP correspondent, that the H5N8 virus, a strain of bird flu was found in a dead swan in Constanta.

"Samples were taken from a swan found dead in Constanta, and the results established that it is the virus H5N8, a strain of bird flu. It forms a surveillance zone and a protection and will take severe measures the biosercuritate. They have controlled all households in the area poultry farms, fairs and will not leave any bird without veterinary contol, "said Michael Ponea.

According to the source, Romania is on alert last week when the Hungarian authorities ordered the slaughter of birds present near settlements outbreaks of avian influenza in Bugac and Kiskunmajsa.

ANSVA measures ordered and taken as a result of confirmation of avian influenza virus (H5N8 subtype) in Constanta County

The morning date of 11/22/2016, following the notification mortality observed in wild swans, inspectors from the DSVSA Constance went in Constanta port aquatorium.
A corpse was found one swan that has been sent to the laboratory Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety County (LSVSAJ) from Constanta to perform analyzes in an emergency.
It also inspected the entire aquatorium port of Constanta, not identified other bodies.

LSVSAJ Constanta, on 23.11.2016, has issued an analysis found positive for avian influenza, by identifying the virus genome.
On the morning of 11/24/2016, were sent to the Institute for Diagnosis and Animal Health in Bucharest (National Reference Laboratory for avian influenza), representative samples of winter swan body, the confirmation of avian influenza virus.

According to procedures, on 23/11/2016, following receipt LSVJ result from Constanta, it was the notification of the suspicion of avian influenza, conducting epidemiological investigation of suspected IA, preparing GIS maps, drawing up the scheme. Also, the European Commission has been notified about this suspicion.

They were notified: Prefecture, D.S.P. Constanta, associations pigeon Constanta County Border Police, all commercial holdings birds in the county, all AJVPS sites Constanta, NC MPA SA Constanta, DSVSA neighboring (TL, BR, IL, CL) CSVSA Constanta, Navodari Cumpăna and Agigea (with municipalities under the control and monitoring), Museum of Natural Sciences - Constanta Aquarium.

Following the issue of the IDSA analysis report which was confirmed the presence of avian influenza virus subtype H5N8, the disease was declared.

According to the plan of measures and legislation veterinary in force were established two areas of veterinary restrictions around the location where it was identified whooper swans or a protection zone with a radius of 3 km and a surveillance zone with a radius of 10 km, which includes the protection zone around the location foregoing.
