Influenza killed first pregnant in Romania?

Saturday, December 12, 2009

Suspicion. A young woman from Cluj, eight months pregnant, which showed signs of influenza in November, died Wednesday. The child was saved.

Ana Maria Varodi, 30, of Huedin was urgently admitted to the Gynecology Clinic of Cluj-Napoca, with a diagnosis of acute respiratory failure and pulmonary blood pressure and died Wednesday. Women had any signs A/H1N1 infection, but laboratory tests to confirm the virus were not yet completed.

Infectious Diseases Clinic of Cluj-Napoca are boarding, currently, five pregnant women diagnosed with the virus A/H1N1 in Suceava - four, and in Iasi - two.

Physicians recommends that pregnant women should be immunized against influenza in November, although vaccines have not yet been tested on pregnant women because the benefits outweigh the risks. Nationally, there were officially 18 deaths and nearly 4,400 cases.

Taken to hospital in very serious condition

"He was brought in very serious condition, was assisted by a mechanical ventilation device. We found the existence of a preeclamsii (No - pregnancy induced hypertension) and decided that, for the good child, you need a cesarean. Although born only eight months, the child is very well, "the doctor told us Stamatian Florin, director of the Gynecology Clinic.

Furthermore, doctors are to determine whether or not influenza virus was young in November. "The young are symptoms of swine flu and is to be determined after laboratory analysis, clear diagnosis," says Magda Petrescu physician, Pathological Anatomy of the Laboratory of Cluj-Napoca.

Women's neighbors were shocked by the news and tell the woman stayed in last Monday, May than in hospitals. "It was a nice girl, quiet and very friendly with children. I knew that is pregnant and expects her second child. He said several times that it feels better and that hurt the back and kidneys. Too bad for her, "said the young neighbor, Eva Lorincz.

11 pregnant with A/H1N1 interned in Cluj, Iasi and Suceava

Infectious Diseases Clinic of Cluj-Napoca are boarding, currently, five pregnant women diagnosed with A/H1N1 virus, and the Hospital of St. John the New ", in Suceava, are boarding four pregnancies with the same diagnosis. The last three cases were confirmed yesterday by health authorities. It's about two women in Suceava and one of Falticeni.

Also, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Hospital "St. Spiridon "Iaşi, the longer two of the five pregnant women diagnosed with A/H1N1 initial boarding. The five women came to hospital with severe res piratorie and three of them were born by Caesarean. According to doctors, the health of the two remaining boarding lehuze improved.

Risk of 10 times to reach Intensive Care

Recent studies cited by the World Health Organization (WHO) showed that a pregnant who A/H1N1 virus has a ten times higher risk than a healthy person to get in intensive care because of pregnancy weakened immune system.

WHO officials shows that, until now, has proved that the pandemic vaccine that affect embryonic development or postnatal reason ?nsărciante recommended that women be considered a risk group and should be immunized.

Some doctors say that the ideal would be for the vaccination to be in quarters 2 and 3 pregnancy, baby when all organs are formed. Women who are breastfeeding can safely vaccinated.

REALITY

No pandemic vaccine has been tested on pregnant

None of the new flu vaccines market has not been tested on pregnant before being marketed, in particular ethical reasons. "But it is a vaccine made by the same technology as those for seasonal influenza, with the difference that is monovalent, not trivalent (containing a single strain)", commented Prof. Dr. John Fulga, head of the Department of Pharmacology "Carol Davila" .

Consequently, experts recommend that pregnant women be evaluated by doctors, and if it deemed necessary to be vaccinated immunization, taking account of facts and context of local epidemiology (how many cases are in a community), chronic disease that has a woman or stage pregnancy.

The only study that is currently done on 120 pregnant women in the U.S. runs at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases control and pandemic vaccine administered is the product of Sanofi Pasteur.
