Deborah Gene Helms Reynolds

Deborah Gene (Debby) Helms Reynolds, 58, of Roanoke, Va., passed away suddenly at her home due to flu complications on Friday, October 30, 2009. She resided in Roanoke County and enjoyed the home she and her sister shared at Smith Mountain Lake. Debby was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny C. and Sabra T. Helms; and brother, John C. Helms Jr. Debby graduated from William Fleming High School and received her graduate and masters degrees from Radford University. She was employed by Roanoke County Public Schools and worked as the librarian at Mountain View Elementary School for over 35 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed her life's work as an educator for young people. She loved each and every child that she taught through the years. Debby is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Paul Reynolds; beloved son, Seth Helms Reynolds; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry Helms Thurman and Henry "Buddy" Thurman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Mike Hellner, Mary and Ben Himes; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Judy Reynolds; aunts, Hazel Helms Bryant and Pearl Helms Pendleton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved cat, Tinkerbelle and grand-dog Rylee. Debby had a huge heart and was a kind and generous person. She adored her family and her many friends and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mountain View Elementary School Library, 5901 Plantation Circle, Roanoke, Va. 24019. Funeral services will be at Oakey's North Chapel 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, with the Rev. Brian Clingenpeel and the Rev. J.R. Graybill officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
