Johannesburg - There has been an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) in the Graaff Reinet and Kei Mouth, the Eastern Cape agriculture department said on Wednesday.

State veterinarians confirmed the death of three sheep in Kei Mouth and a cow in Graaff-Reinet, spokesperson Thozi Manyisana said.

"The State vets are working around the clock to find out the extent of the outbreak," he said.

Rift Valley Fever outbreak in Northern Cape

Kimberley - Northern Cape farmers have been warned to vaccinate their livestock against Rift Valley Fever after two people tested positive for the disease.

"Two human cases have been confirmed in the Calvinia area, where a farmer and a farm worker tested positive for Rift Valley Fever," the agriculture department said on Monday.

"This happened after they handled a sick animal," said spokesperson Sipho Mbaqa.
