The prefecture and the Regional Health Agency announced this Monday, August 10, 3 new cases of coronavirus recorded in Reunion. These new cases are under investigation.

The department has a total of 690 cases since the first case appeared on March 11.

70% of imported cases
According to the prefecture of Reunion, 687 cases have been investigated to date by ARS, Public Health France and Assurance Maladie. Imported cases represent 70% of cases.

- 483 imported cases (people who contracted the disease outside the territory) including 58 cases resulting from a medical evacuation under regional solidarity
- 80 secondary indigenous cases (people with a direct link to imported cases)
- 124 indigenous cases (people with an indirect link or not having any link with an imported case).

Four patients in intensive care
This Monday, August 10, four patients with Covid-19, from a medical evacuation, are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. In addition, twenty other patients are hospitalized in other departments at the University Hospital of La R?union, including 13 from medical evacuations.

There are 631 cured patients and five people who died of the coronavirus at the Reunion University Hospital, all of whom arrived by medical evacuation from Mayotte.

More than 5,200 contact persons identified
More than 5,200 people called individually and followed through "contact-tracing". "Contact-tracing" is a device which aims to identify and recall all people who have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus during its period of contagiousness (we speak of "contact subjects" or "contacts ").

These people are the subject of a telephone survey during which their state of health is assessed and the importance of:

respect strict isolation (fortnight)
daily monitor their state of health
immediately call 15 in case of breathing difficulties and signs of suffocation
call your doctor as soon as symptoms appear (for an appointment or a teleconsultation) for a prescription for a virological test
wear a mask when in face-to-face contact with other people.

The contact-tracing system is now based on 3 different and complementary levels, provided by:

the attending physician at the first level: identification of the closest family circle,
Health insurance at the second level: professional, friendly identification ...
the ARS at the third level: investigations of complex situations and cases grouped together in communities to identify early and limit the formation of clusters.
