The prefecture and the Regional Health Agency confirm 12 new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus recorded in Reunion this Wednesday July 8 at 3:00 p.m., a total of 563 cases since the appearance of the first case on March 11, 2020.
Among these new cases:
- 8 cases are indigenous linked to a previously reported case, within the same family,
- 1 case is imported as part of a medical evacuation as part of regional solidarity,
- 3 cases are under investigation.
Regarding the 8 indigenous cases:
It is not a local chain of transmission but cases occurring within the same family.
Following the detection of a first covid case, and in order to ensure the health situation of the people who had been in contact with it, a mobile CHU screening team intervened within this family.
ARS contacted the patients to remind them of the importance of:
- respect the isolation instructions throughout the isolation period and the correct application of barrier gestures
- monitor their state of health daily
- contact the attending physician in case of symptoms
- call 15 immediately in case of breathing difficulties and signs of suffocation
- wear a mask in case of face to face contact with other people
Contact persons are being identified. It is however important to emphasize that no notion of travel has yet been highlighted for this family. This clearly shows that the virus is circulating in Reunion and that barrier measures must absolutely be applied.

Contact-tracing: more than 4,100 people called individually and followed up
"Contact-tracing" is a device which aims to identify and recall all people who have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus during its period of contagiousness (we speak of "contact subjects" or "contacts ").
These people are subject to a telephone survey during which their health is assessed and the importance of:
- respect strict isolation (fourteen)
- monitor their state of health daily
- call 15 immediately in case of breathing difficulties and signs of suffocation
- call your doctor as soon as symptoms appear (for an appointment or a teleconsultation) for a prescription for a virological test
- wear a mask in case of face to face contact with other people
The contact-tracing system is now based on 3 different and complementary levels, provided by:
- the attending physician at the first level: identification of the closest family circle,
- Health insurance at the second level: identification of professional, friendly environment ...
- ARS at the third level: investigations of complex situations and cases grouped into communities to identify early and limit cluster formation.
