Re: Research Articles Abstracts?October 27 2012 Issue

some notes regarding 2 papers above:

> Gu M, Huang J, Chen Y, Chen J, et al.
> Genome Sequence of a Natural Reassortant H5N2 Avian Influenza
> Virus from Domestic Mallard Ducks in Eastern China.

17,04,20,--,03,--,18,--,19
3,4 are Fujian 2,5,6 are new (mallard not chicken) -
2,5 are close to the mallard-index , 1,7 are from H5N1 ~2002
8 is avian, poultry, distant from the index

------------------------------------------------------------

> Complete Genome Sequence of a Mammalian Species-Infectious and -
> Pathogenic H6N5 Avian Influenza Virus without Evidence of Adaptation.

close to the index : 02,04,05,--,03,--,03,02

so the direct index virus which is probably around in mallards
since centuries, almost unchanged amino acids in the inner segments,
this one can probably already infect humans with suitable HA,NA.
But we hadn't seen this yet in nature - usually it first develops
in poultry (or swine)
----------- well, we knew that already, the 2003 H7N7 outbreak
in Netherlands,Belgium where they culled 30M chickens , had ~100
human infections and one death, was also close to the index
in the inner segments.
