Reporters - Indonesia, Egypt, Thailand & Everywhere

cartski

Advisory Board
To the press reporters from Indonesia, Egypt, Thailand, and anywhere where bird flu is causing sickness and death,

Thank-you.

It is obvious to readers of your news reports that you have been talking, investigating, and digging for information about bird flu and its victims. We can see that you contact sick and dying people and have put yourselves at personal risk of disease.

Know that your grass roots information is complementing the excellent work done by public health officials, healthcare professionals, and international scientists. On the other side of the globe, the information you provide about where a victim lived, the contact he or she had with birds, when the person got sick and many other details are read slowly, carefully and repeatedly. The information you provide is added to the official government reports and major network stories everyday.

It is negative 30 degrees Celsius in the city where I write this. There is one meter of snow on the ground. There are 3 months of winter remaining. Yet today I?ve read reports from Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, and Japan. And I?ve read deliberations by scientists and physicians from neighbouring cities who are examining the same reports with extreme attention.

Reporters, take care of you. Take the advice of the health professionals around you ? wear the masks and the gloves when you talk to possible victims. You are soldiers in the fight against this disease ? if you succumb needlessly, many others may follow.

Reporters, know that the information you are gathering is not only printed words in your local or national newspaper. Your work is a real contribution to a growing fight by people all around the world against a pandemic nightmare. Thank you.

Yes, thank you reporters. :applause:

Flutrackers wouldn't be what it is without your work.

Details like symptoms onset dates, symptoms, treatments, age, etc. initially provided by reporters can speed analysis by many sources.

I second what AlaskaDenise posted. Journalists, on the ground, around the world, are our eyes and ears for sensing what is happening with H5N1.
