Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Could someone advise me on whom I should contact regarding chicken (bird) sales and distribution in the city centre of Jakarta?
Isn't sales or distribution of chicken restricted to particular areas?
Are there laws on whether these sales or distribution can be done in or near housing areas?
Thank you for any advise provided.

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Welcome Txexes! To help you, can you tell me your primary speaking language?

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

I would say for you to contact the embassy of your country for detailed information about where to purchase chickens in Jakarta. :)

I am not concern about where to purchase chicken, but more to where the people distribute the chickens.
I have heard that live chicken distributions is not allowed in city centre, but there seems to be no one overseeing the regulation.
I have tried contacting the Department of Agriculture (sent an email), but to no avail.
I pass the truck full of chicken everyday on my way home in Jakarta. It is not on the protocol road, but just as busy, especially during office hours. They load and unload the crates of chicken, and at time, I see killings of the chicken for sale too.
I would like to bring to the government's notice, but I do not know who to contact regarding this matter.
It seems like no one wants to take responsibility, as there are no clear instructions on where we should go, should we have some complaints of this sort.

That's my point. The government announced such measures, but they do not follow up on it.
There are still chicken distribution and sales about 10 meter (radius) of housing areas.
So, can anyone provide me with a number or person to contact to report such a practice?

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

If you are not an Indonesian citizen, the best thing to do is to contact your embassy for assistance. Persons there will know how to best handle any question/complaint that you have.

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Well :D I am an Indonesian national.
And even I have no idea who to go to for matters such as this. Can someone help advise me on where to go/ who to approach regarding such matter?

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

I will try to contact Emmy Fitri from The Jakarta Post then..thanks.

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Good luck; let us know if you get any replies. And welcome to Flu Trackers.

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

I haven't contacted Emmy, but I found this website:
http://www.komnasfbpi.go.id/
I will try them instead. But I worry that I have to disclose my identity, if they do, I will not make a report (for fear of repercussion, as I live in the neighborhood).
Let's see how this goes...

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

I have sent an email off yesterday to one of their offices, let's see if they do something about my complaint.

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Same problem - unchecked live chicken trade - everywhere, except may be on in the harbours of Bali and Kalimantan, and some smaller islands, as far as I know.

Today a report from Bandung:

Poultry traffic left uncontrolled

Yuli Tri Suwarni , The Jakarta Post , Bandung | Thu, 11/06/2008

Because West Java's provincial capital Bandung lacks livestock checkpoints, unmonitored and suspect poultry from outlying towns may be reintroducing the bird flu virus into the city, a Bandung official said.

Checking poultry traffic is the responsability of the Livestock Service (Peternakan) and the City Authorities (Governor).

Alright, a follow up...
I have called the officials working the Livestock Services (as mentioned in the link above), and I was told that such sales and distribution (of live chicken) around the city and housing complexes are ALLOWED.
AND there will ONLY be a restriction AROUND the year 2010.
Other than that, live birds by the truck loads are still all over the city.
I think if there is no more outbreak in Jakarta, they would have forgotten that they had to control live bird trade in the city.
Oh well, for all of us that live in Jakarta, we are at the mercy of the flu strain...whenever they decide to pop up again...:applause:

Thanks a bunch Txexes, we are whatchin ya! Got any pics? You are in the action there and any and all info is greatly appreciated:tiphat:

Re: Report bird/ chicken distribution/ sales in city centre

Yes, that is how things can go.

In Semarang authorities recently closed down a chicken butchery in a densely populated area, after a girl died; suspected cause: bird flu.

They found out there was no permit to butcher chickens there.
