SHANGHAI, China (AP) - China state media say an eight-year-old girl has been released from a hospital after successful treatment for bird flu.

The Xinhua News Agency says she is the sixth person cured of the disease in China.

The girl showed symptoms of fever and pneumonia on April 16 and was hospitalized a week later.

Xinhua says doctors used minimal antibiotics during her treatment to avoid the risk of fungal infections or "bacterial maladjustments."

Xinhua cited the girl's mother as saying that the girl fed chickens and ducks at the family's rural home on the outskirts of her town -- a likely indicator that she was infected by sick poultry.

China's Health Ministry says 12 people have died of bird flu in the country, including two in Sichuan province.

The disease has killed 124 people worldwide.

Re: Report: 8-year-old Chinese girl cured of avian flu

Anyone know how to discover the treatment protocol?

But for the fact that she was hospitalized for over 1 month, which will be improbable during a pandemic, this is very good news.

Anyone here have access to the treatment protocol?

If it was in Hong Kong I believe we could get it, but China? I am doubtful we could get this in any kind of timely fashsion.
