A Hemet man and a 4-year-old Perris girl who died earlier this month tested positive for the flu, Riverside County public health officials said.

Riverside County Public Health officials reported the deaths Friday, Jan. 18, after both were diagnosed with different strains of influenza. Officials said it hasn?t been determined that the flu directly led to their deaths.

The first death was a 22-year-old Hemet man who tested positive for Influenza-A earlier this month and was briefly hospitalized before he died, according to Dr. Cameron Kaiser, Riverside County interim public health officer.

A 4-year-old Perris girl also died earlier this month after she was taken to the emergency room and tested positive for Influenza-B.

Officials said they do not know how long it will take to determine whether the flu contributed to their deaths in any way. Public health officials said Riverside County?s flu activity has been at normal levels compared to past years.
