TNN | Jun 2, 2014, 02.02 AM IST

JAIPUR: Now, testing of swine flu has become easy for patients living in remote areas. The health department has introduced the viral transport media (VTM) at all the district hospitals, satellite hospitals and sub-divisional hospitals in the state to detect the disease.

Health department director (health) Dr BR Meena said, "Earlier the patients suffering from influenza-like illness had to rush to the government-run medical colleges to get their swab test done. Like a patient in Barmer had to go to Jodhpur medical college. But, now as VTM has been introduced, the facility is available in Barmer too and the patients don't need to go to medical colleges. The health officials will collect the swab samples through VTM and send it to Jodhpur medical college for testing. The patients need not to come to Jodhpur."
