Pregnant woman tests positive for swine flu in Jodhpur

JAIPUR: A pregnant woman has tested positive for swine flu in Jodhpur. It is the seventh case of the disease this winter and the woman has been admitted to the MDM Hospital here.

The hospital authorities have kept her in the isolation ward to ensure that it does not spread.

Jodhpur chief medical and health officer Dr R C Mathur said, "The condition of the patient is improving. She is all right as the doctors have started treatment after diagnosis."

The patient is a resident of Sursagar area of Jodhpur. She was brought to the hospital early this week with symptoms of swine flu. After tests, the doctors confirmed on Wednesday that she has swine flu.

So far this winter, seven persons with swine flu were admitted to the MDM Hospital. Four of them belonged to Jodhpur and two are from Pali and one from other district. In the beginning of January, a swine flu patient died which alerted the health department.

Beware! Swine flu spreading in Jaipur


Jaipur: The dreaded swine flu has resurfaced in Jaipur. The Sawai Man Singh Hospital on Saturday issued an alert for its doctors to be prepared to tackle a possible outbreak of the H1N1 virus. In Jaipur alone five cases were reported in a week, of which, two have succumbed to the flu virus. There are reports of more cases from the districts.

On Saturday, a fresh case of H1N1 virus patient was reported in Jaipur. An 8-year-old Vidyut Nagar resident Naman was admitted to a local hospital where he was confirmed to have the flu.

Medical superintendent of SMS Hospital, Dr LC Sharma said, "We have issued circulars for the hospital staff to be prepared to fight the H1N1 virus." When asked the reason behind the resurgence of the virus, he said, "the frequent fluctuation in temperature and change in weather has allowed the virus to resurface again; people need to be cautious." Sharma maintained that no flu case has been admitted in the SMS Hospital till now, though a lot of cases are being reported from private hospitals.

Officials said that the state-run hospitals were equipped to handle the flu virus. They said that there were ample stocks of the medicine used for treating the virus.

Sonal Jain, a patient of the flu died on Thursday at the Rungta Hospital.

It seems that the swine flu menace has hit Jaipur with 6 cases being reported in the last 10 days. An eight year old was the latest victim who tested positive for the influenza on Saturday. Out of the six cases two patients have passed away...

Swine flu control room made functional

JAIPUR: After six swine flu cases were reported in the city in last 10 days, the medical, health and family welfare department strengthened facilities at the swine flu control room at SMS Hospital, which was almost lying defunct during the last six months.

Prior to the first case reported in Jaipur on February 28, there was no doctor deployed at the control room.

A medical, health and family welfare department official said in an effort to strengthen control room, we have deployed eight doctors and four nursing staff to assist them in providing treatment to such patients.

Moreover, the department has issued two numbers 0141-2605858 and 0141-2603426 for people to get more information about swine flu.

Two more swine flu cases detected in Jaipur


Eight-year-old Naman is the fifth of six swine flu cases detected in Jaipur in the last 10 days. Naman was tested positive for the influenza on Saturday.

Out of the six cases, two patients - eight-year-old girl Ojaswi and 26-year-old Sonal Jain - died.

An official of the medical, health family welfare department said Naman is a resident of Vidhyut Nagar and he is undergoing treatment at JK Lon hospital. The official said since he had symptoms like of swine flu, doctors conducted a test for swine flu. The report showed he tested positive for swine flu.

A JK Lon Hospital official said Naman came to their OPD ward and returned home after giving swab samples for swine flu. He is not admitted to the hospital, he said.

Another case was reported in Vidhyadhar Nagar, when 26-year-old Deepshikha was tested positive for swine flu. She is a resident of Amba Bari and was undergoing treatment for her illeness at a private clinic. On suspicion, a private doctor conducted the test and she was found suffering from swine flu. The private doctor then informed the medical, health and family welfare department about the swine flu case.

Swine flu: More swab samples sent to labs for test

JAIPUR: The scare of swine flu intensified on Sunday as more swab samples of patients were sent to laboratories for the H1N1 influenza test. Telephones at the control rooms of chief medical health officers Jaipur I and Jaipur II remained busy throughout the day as people sought information about the disease and its symptoms.

The department of medical, health and family welfare had issued an appeal to the public to not take symptoms of swine flu lightly which are similar to those of cold and cough. More than 50 calls were received by the control rooms about swine flu till Sunday evening.

Anxious people suffering from cold and cough called up the control room to seek help about what to do in such a situation. They also wanted to know whom to contact to know if they are suffering from swine flu or not.

A department official said though swine flu is not a new thing but since six cases in last 10 days have surfaced, people want to know everything about the disease's symptoms. People called up the control rooms not only from Jaipur, but also from places like Jhunjhunu, Hindaun and other parts of the state.

Three more swine flu cases in state

JAIPUR: After swine flu reared up its ugly head again, the state medical, health and family welfare department has decided to launch a massive door-to-door survey in the city from Friday to detect patients of the disease in early stages.

Meanwhile, a four-year-old girl Aarti, a resident of Ajmer Road, tested positive for the swine flu on Thursday. So far, 13 cases of swine flu have been reported during the last 17 days in Jaipur, including Aarti. Also, two more cases of swine flu were detected one in Bikaner and one in Jodhpur. On Thursday, one case of swine flu each was found in Jaipur, Bikaner and Jodhpur.

In Bikaner, 36-year-old Rajesh Kala and in Jodhpur 19-year-old Mamta Saini tested positive for H1N1 influenza. So far in the last one year in the entire state (from April 2011 to March 15), 47 swine flu cases were detected and 15 deaths from it were reported.

Woman dies of swine flu in Ajmer, 3rd death in state

JAIPUR: A 43-year-old woman died of swine flu in Ajmer on Wednesday, the third death in the past 20 days in the state.

According to sources, Leela Devi, a resident of Ajmer, was tested positive for swine flu on March 12 and was admitted to JLN Hospital. She was undergoing treatment since then.

Chief medical and health officer, Ajmer, Dr Laxman Harchandani, said: "She died of swine flu. We surveyed the area to which she belonged to look for other positive cases. But, so far no other case has been detected."

JAIPUR: Five people have reportedly died of swine flu in Rajasthan over the past 20 days, including two Tuesday, and the state health machinery has been placed in a state of high alert, an official said.

After a lull of six months, swine flu has again reared its head in the state as 18 other patients have been detected with the disease and are being treated at various hospitals in the state.

"Dhannath Singh, 70, and Uma Devi, 28, died of swine flu in Bikaner and Nagaur districts Tuesday," a senior medical and health department officer told IANS.

Health ministry wakes up to swine flu threat in state

JAIPUR: The state health ministry is closely monitoring the recent cases of swine flu and has already started collecting details about the reports on a daily basis.

So far, in March, 28 cases of swine flu have been reported in the state and out of them five have died of H1N1 influenza. Since the cases of swine flu were reported in Jaipur after a gap of around six months, it has caught the department off guard. Earlier, the control room for swine flu at Sawai Man Singh hospital was lying almost unattended but as the cases started being reported, the department deployed eight doctors and four nursing staff to control and prevent the disease from spreading.
