Mexico City .- After the Secretary of Health of Quintana Roo decreed an epidemiological alert for an increase of almost 100 percent in cases of chickenpox in children of the entity, the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Mauricio Hernandez said that this is a benign disease and it is usually the time of year where there are more cases.

"We have cases in some states that have reported chickenpox, but I have no information that we have more cases than we normally see at this time," he said in an interview. He added that it is at this time of year when regularly recorded increases of up to 500 or 600 cases in the country of this disease in children.

He explained that most of these kids are spread in schools and why sometimes even register between 15 and 20 cases in the same classroom.

"Chickenpox is a disease against which we apply vaccines, because it is a disease that has a benign course, except when we get in adolescence or adulthood," he said
