Question about the genetics of H5N1 in Egypt

Doc Niman or anyone who can answer this: the authorities in Egypt keep pointing to poultry whenever anyone tests positive in Egypt -- in the recent pos case/death of Nadia Abdel Hafez, for instance:

Do the sequences from people and poultry in Egypt match? I'm thinking, as opposed to Indonesia where the sequences don't match and, therefore, there's prolly/possibily another vector. Or, is there discordance between the human and poultry sequences in Egypt, too?

Do we (I mean you!) know?

Thanks!

Matching the human and poultry sequences is difficult. Like Indonesia, there is general agreement, but that doesn't exclude a mammalian reservoir.

The recent bird sequences in Indonesia provide a much better match, indicating more poultry have H5N1 with the novel cleavage site and therefore there may be more direct infections.

Ah-ha. Thanks!

I understand it's not easy (prolly impossible) to "match" all these sequences 100%. I was just wondering if, perhaps, it was very obvious that the poulty/human sequences in Egypt didn't match at all. But, there is general agreement. Got it. Thanks!
