Quebec hospital reports C. difficile cases

News Services August 13, 2009

Quebec health officials said Wednesday 11 people were being treated following an outbreak of C. difficile at a hospital in Sorel.

Another four people hospitalized at Sorel's Hotel-Dieu Hospital, about 80 kilometres east of Montreal, have died since June, but officials were not yet able to confirm whether they had C. difficile. The deceased patients had other serious health conditions at the time and were in their 80s.
Meanwhile the people infected at the hospital were recovering, hospital officials said.
